Microsoft has announced that it will stop supporting the password storage and autofill feature in its Authenticator app starting July 2025, with full removal set for August 1, 2025.
This change is part of Microsoft’s plan to simplify how users manage their saved passwords by moving everything to Microsoft Edge. If you currently use Authenticator to store passwords, you’ll need to export your saved information before August 1, or it could be lost for good. Microsoft recommends switching to Edge’s built-in password manager to keep things in one place and make the transition as smooth as possible.
Apps and Services That Work with Microsoft Authenticator
The app works with Microsoft services like Outlook, Azure AD, and GitHub, but it also supports many non-Microsoft accounts. It’s a simple way to add an extra layer of protection to your logins, whether you’re using it for work or personal accounts.
Microsoft Moves Authenticator’s Password Features to Edge Browser
Microsoft is moving its autofill and password manager features from the Authenticator app to its Edge browser. If you want to keep using the passwords you’ve saved in Authenticator for autofill, you’ll now need to install the Microsoft Edge app on your phone on both iOS and Android.
This change means everything will be managed through Edge going forward, making it the new place to store and use your saved login details.
