The Blindsight Device allows people to experience vision by processing and sending neural signals, even if they don’t have eyes or an optic nerve. According to Elon Musk’s X account, he has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be experimented on patients who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see. FDA referred to it as a “breakthrough device” and among their voluntary breakthrough devices program. The FDA awards Breakthrough Device Designation to medical devices that offer treatment or diagnosis for life-threatening conditions. This program helps speed up the development and review process for promising devices still in development.
