iPhone and Android users can now start sending end-to-end encrypted messages through RCS chats. The new feature is rolling out in beta and brings better privacy and security to conversations between the two platforms.
With end-to-end encryption, messages are protected while being sent, making them difficult for hackers, governments, or third parties to intercept and read. The update also improves cross-platform texting with features like read receipts, typing indicators, emoji reactions, longer messages, and better quality photo and video sharing.
For years, communication between iPhone and Android users has been limited due to Apple’s lack of support for RCS messaging. Group chats often broke, and media sharing quality was poor.
