Meta has introduced a new private chat feature on WhatsApp that allows users to interact with its AI assistant in a more secure and confidential environment. The new “incognito” mode is designed to reduce privacy concerns by giving users temporary conversations that are not permanently stored. According to the company, the feature offers a safer way for people to communicate with Meta AI while keeping sensitive discussions more discreet and protected. Meta also stated that chats will run in a protected system that even the company cannot view, and the conversations will automatically disappear once the session ends unless users choose to save them.
Artificial intelligence chat systems have faced growing criticism over privacy and data security because they rely on massive amounts of information to improve their performance. In some cases, these AI models may use data shared by users during conversations, raising concerns about how personal and sensitive information is collected, stored, and handled.
Meta said the new incognito feature was introduced because many users share sensitive personal, financial, health, and work-related information while chatting with AI.
Other AI chatbot platforms already provide privacy settings that give users more control over their data. Google allows users of Google Gemini to turn off chat history and prevent conversations from being used to improve AI systems. OpenAI also offers similar privacy options in ChatGPT.
