YouTube is expanding its likeness detection tool to all creators aged 18 and above in the coming weeks. Until now, it was only available to selected and high-profile creators in the YouTube Partner Program.
The tool is designed to spot videos that use AI to copy or alter a creator’s face. It then lets creators review such content and request its removal if needed. Google says the feature is the first of its kind in YouTube Studio and is meant to help creators better track and control how AI is used to represent them on the platform.
How YouTube’s Likeness Detection Tool Works
Once a creator joins the program, YouTube automatically scans the platform for videos that may use AI or edits to copy their face. Creators can then review where their likeness appears and ask for any fake or unauthorized videos to be removed through YouTube Studio. To protect identity, YouTube first verifies each creator using facial recognition and a government-issued ID before turning on the feature.
How to Sign Up for YouTube Likeness Detection
The feature is rolling out to creators aged 18 and over. They can join through YouTube Studio by enabling Likeness Detection and completing a quick identity check.
Once active, it runs in the background to spot AI-edited videos of their face. Creators can review results and request removal if needed.
Google says the tool will improve over time, but full global availability has not been announced yet.
